  Social Ministries

  • Basic Christian Community of Hawaii:
A lay movement designed to facilitate retreat weekends and small groups to study, support, and to know and understand Jesus’ message under the spiritual direction of the Benedictine Community in Hawaii.
  • Boy Scouts:
Saint Anthony Church has sponsored Boy Scout Troop 223 since 1951.  The Boy Scout program is organized and led by the boys in our parish community ages 11 to 18 years of age.
  • Cub Scouts:
The Cub Scouts are sponsored by the parish school and run by parents and other adults.  The Cub Scout program is open to boys in grades kinder through fifth grade.
  • Girl Scouts:
The Girl Scouts are sponsored by the parish school and run by parents and other adults.  The Saint Anthony Girl Scouts Troop #885 is open to all girls in grades kinder to fifth grade.  The mission of the program is to develop girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.  As a girl scout, there are lots of ways to have fun, make friends, and do things that have a positive impact on your life, school, and our world.
  • Cards of Faith Ministry:
We are a group of parishioners who design and write cards for those who are homebound, in the hospital, or just needing some spiritual encouragement, thus linking them to the life of our parish community. “Sharing God’s love through Cards of Faith.”   [email protected]
  • Collection Counters:
We are responsible volunteers who count and record collections from our faithful community after weekend masses.
  • Family Promise:
We are a group of volunteers who work with our parish and community resources to aid families with children experiencing homelessness.  We provide a temporary safe-haven for families while they transition to sustainable independence.
  • Outreach Volunteer:
We are volunteers who assist the needy of our community by providing food and clothing.  We operate the Thrift Shop and funds collected support our ministry.
  • Respite for Caregivers of the Frail and Elderly:
We are volunteers who provide respite to caregivers. This often involves staying with the client while the caregiver goes out.  We also assist, when we can, with rides to appointments or to church.
  • Hospital and Homebound Visits:
We make meaningful visits to the ill and homebound, and to their families and caregivers. We bring the Word of Christ and Holy Eucharist to those who are unable to attend mass, thus linking them to the life of the parish community.
We are duly commissioned.
  • IHS Ministry:
We are volunteers that meet on the first Thursday of each month.  We go to the IHS Homeless shelter in Honolulu to cook a chili dinner for the guests there.  We leave Kailua at 2:15 p.m. and return by 7:30 p.m.
  • Knights of Columbus:
We are a fraternal order of Catholic men 18 years and older who provide support for the Church and various charities.  Our Council #6307 includes the parishes of Saint Anthony and Saint John Vianney of Kailua.
  • Welcoming Committee:
We contact new parishioners, welcome them, answer their questions, and meet them at weekend Masses.  We strive to make newcomers feel welcome and to be active members in our worshipping community.
  • Hospitality/O’hana Sunday:
We encourage fellowship and a welcoming spirit within our church community. We serve refreshments after weekend masses on the fourth Sunday of each month.

  • Bereavement Ministry:
Upon notification of a death of a loved one, we reach out to “comfort the sorrowing.” We assist our Priests as they plan for funerals, wakes, and burials.
  • Altar Linens:
We launder soiled linens used in the Mass and other liturgical activities. We wash, iron, fold and put these linens into their designated place in the sacristy.
  • Baby Sitting During the Mass:
During the 6:30 and 8:30am Masses, we care for the children four years and under.   We provide support for the parents so that they may fully participate during the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
  • Josefinos:
We are a group of volunteers who tend to the minor day to day repairs and maintenance of the parish.
  • Prison Ministry:
We share Christ’s love with female inmates at the Kailua Women’s Prison (WCCC).  Weekly volunteer opportunities include participating with other parishioners and inmates in the Sunday 8:00-9:00 a.m. Communion/Prayer Service and/or 9:00-10:30 a.m. Bible Study.  If you are a good listener you might consider “1 on 1” (meeting with an inmate for an hour weekly to discuss how God is working in her life).  Volunteer opportunities are also available at the Federal Detention Center, Halawa, and OCCC.

  • Respect Life Ministry:
We are a group of volunteers who proclaim that human life is a precious gift from God:  that each person who receives this gift has responsibilities towards God, self, and others:  and that society through its laws and social institutions must protect and nurture human life at every stage of its existence.
  • Serra Club of Honolulu:
We support our priests, deacons and avowed religious, and encourage those who aspire to these vocations, and support our own personal spiritual growth.
  • Society of Saint Vincent de Paul:
